Official reception and cultural evening in New Delhi dedicated to the 33rd Anniversary of Armenia's Independence and the 100th birth Anniversary of Charles Aznavour

19 September, 2024
On 19 September 2024, the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in India hosted an official reception and cultural evening in New Delhi dedicated to the 33rd Anniversary of Armenia's Independence and the 100th birth Anniversary of Charles Aznavour, with India’s Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh as the Chief Guest.
In his speech, Armenia's Ambassador Vahagn Afyan emphasized the importance of each country's sovereignty, the challenges faced by the Republic of Armenia in recent years to maintain its independence, and the favorable conditions currently in place in Armenia, which are geared towards building a prosperous future. The ambassador commended the Indian people's centuries-long struggle for independence and lauded the nation’s remarkable achievements. He emphasized that a key priority of Armenia's foreign policy is to expand and deepen its bilateral relations with India, building on the foundation of long-standing historical ties, mutual goodwill, and trust shared between the Armenian and Indian peoples.
India's Minister of State for External Affairs, in turn, spoke about the deep historical connections between the two countries, their mutual commitment to the values of democracy, and the steps being taken to strengthen the valuable and lasting partnership through joint efforts. The Minister also shared his positive impressions from a recent visit to Armenia.
The reception, seen as a landmark event after many years, featured the London-based "Klingen" chamber ensemble, invited by the Embassy. The ensemble led by artistic director, conductor, tenor, pianist, maestro Sipan Olah, captivated the audience with performances of music by Aznavour, as well as compositions by Komitas, Khachaturian, Babajanyan, and other renowned Armenian composers.
